Catholic Youth Sports, Keeping the faith while keeping the score!

ABOUT CATHOLIC YOUTH SPORTS

Hundreds of thousands of young athletes participate in sports under Catholic auspices! But what are, and should be, the hallmarks, vision, principles and values of athletic programs in the Church? Read on ...

What Is "Catholic Youth Sports"?

A diocese, parish or other Catholic institution sponsors a Catholic Youth Sports program, often called Catholic Youth Organization (CYO), as one dimension of its comprehensive ministry to youth. Athletic programs can help young people toward imperishable crowns as well as perishable ones. A Catholic Youth Sports program justifies its existence, and the sacrifice and expense it entails, only if it helps young people practice and live Gospel values through their athletic experience.

Catholic Youth, Care for Creation, Care for the Poor

Youth Leading the Way: Stewardship and Solidarity

Foundational principles in Catholic Social Teaching and thought are stewardship and solidarity. As committed Catholics, and disciples of Jesus Christ, our faith commits us to act and advocate for the least ones among us. The call to solidarity requires that we consider how our individual and collective attitudes and actions impact our care for the poor. Being good stewards of all that we have received from the Lord: individual gifts and talents and well as the Earth and its resources, is a fundamental Catholic value. As a Catholic community we have been challenged by the U.S. Catholic Bishops to embrace three core principles: prudence, poverty, and the common good in relationship to the ongoing concern of climate change.

National Federation of Catholic Youth Ministry

Mission Statement

To serve those who serve the young Catholic Church.

Vision Statement

We, the National Federation for Catholic Youth Ministry, participate in the mission of the Catholic Church by advocating for and supporting Catholic youth ministry on the national, diocesan, and local level. As a professional organization of affiliated dioceses and collaborating members, we:

- advocate for the role and needs of young people in the Church and in society and promote the role of the Church and the Gospel in the lives of young people.

- promote a comprehensive approach to youth ministry as articulated in Renewing the Vision.

- provide leadership, resources, services, and conferences for the education and formation of diocesan leaders, youth ministers, and young people.

- support diocesan youth ministry leaders and collaborating members.

- dialogue and collaborate with the U.S. Catholic Bishops and national leadership organizations for the promotion of youth ministry and the professional development of church leaders.

Values

In response to the Gospel, and in pursuit of our mission and vision, we act in accord with these values:

- the dignity and giftedness of each person
- the baptismal call of each person to discipleship and ministry
- the gifts and charisms of young people
- the richness of diversity
- the challenge of justice and peace
- the wisdom of shared leadership

Strategic Goals

To serve adult leaders of youth ministry by providing vision, leadership, professional standards, and educational, spiritual, and ministry formation.

To be an advocate for youth in the Catholic Church and in society, ensuring that the voice of young people is heard and that the gifts of young people are valued.

To promote and encourage ministry to youth within all cultures, settings, and environments within the Catholic Church.

To ensure that the structures, programs, and services of the Federation reflect the multicultural and diverse church.

To exercise responsible stewardship of human and material resources.

To collaborate with the organizational structures of the Catholic Church and with other ministry and youth-serving organizations that affect the field of youth ministry.

Busted Halo

Link to Busted Halo

Mission Statement

We live in an age filled with seekers who are desperately trying to find deeper meaning in their lives but whose journey has little to do with traditional religious institutions.

BustedHalo.com believes that the experiences of these pilgrims and the questions they ask are inherently spiritual.

Based in wisdom from the Catholic tradition, we believe that the joys and the hopes, the griefs and the anxieties of the people of this age are the joys and hopes, the griefs and anxieties of all God’s people.

Nothing genuinely human fails to raise an echo in their hearts.

BustedHalo.com strives to reveal this spiritual dimension of our lives through feature stories, reviews, interviews, faith guides, commentaries, audio clips, discussions and connections to retreat, worship and service opportunities that can’t be found anywhere else.

We are committed to creating a forum that is: open, informed, unexpected, unpredictable, balanced, and thought-provoking. Every time we ask questions about what our lives mean and what keeps us alive, we are talking about something that’s relevant to BustedHalo.com.
