La razón histórica nació, en 2007, como proyecto multidisciplinar de investigación y difusión de la Historia de las Ideas políticas y sociales (IdeenGeschichte) fundadoras de la civilización cristiana desde el mundo cultural hispanoamericano.

De manera crítica y plural, conformamos un proyecto concretado, primeramente, en la publicación digital "La razón histórica. Revista hispanoamericana de Historia de las ideas", plataforma de debate y reflexión para rearmar moralmente a las comunidades ante la emergencia de las "fracturas sociales" que ponen en el debate intelectual, a juicio de los participantes en esta empresa, los pilares de nuestra convivencia social y de nuestra propia supervivencia cultural.

Y en segundo lugar en la Colección La Razón histórica; serie cuadernos de Historia y Pensamiento, nacidos desde la Libertad y en busca de la Verdad, siempre polémicos, siempre personales, siempre auténticos. Un proyecto que responde pues, o lo intenta, a su "tiempo histórico".

A inicios del siglo XXI asistimos a una aceleración, sin precedentes, del ritmo vital de nuestra civilización. La globalización del conocimiento, la tecnificación creciente de la vida cotidiana o las nuevas formas de comunicación, más rápidas y directas que antaño, expresan cambios sociales y culturales de alcance aún por determinar. Las viejas tradiciones seculares, que vinculaban al hombre con su entorno material y espiritual parecen entrar, en ciertos países y en ciertos sectores de Occidente, en trance de desaparición; pero las nuevas formas de vivir y de pensar, propias de la modernidad, se suceden, unas a otras, sin solución de continuidad aparente, y a una velocidad que apenas deja rastros de los mismas en los anales contemporáneos.

La generación protagonista de este “tiempo histórico”, heraldo de una sociedad siempre presta al mito del progreso indefinido, comienza, empero, a hacerse preguntas sobre el presente que debe o pretende encabezar. Caídos los mitos colectivistas, desprestigiados los modelos vitales de autoridad y jerarquía, y ensoñada por un ideal de libertad no siempre acompañado por su necesaria salvaguarda de obligaciones y responsabilidades, esta generación comienza a cuestionarse sobre las raíces de los problemas sociales y políticos no superados, los orígenes de las amenazas medioambientales difundidas globalmente, o los valores que un día fueron el referente de sus antepasados; en suma, sobre la historia que ha llevado a su época ser de una manera y no de otra.

Cada generación tiene la obligación, cuando no necesidad, de escribir su historia. La nuestra es reivindicar la Historia como ciencia secular, disciplina singular y “arte” tradicional, que enseña, con pretensiones didácticas,  y desde el Humanismo cristiano, el camino elegido por la humanidad en su evolución cultural, a nivel local o global; y ante todo, descubre los límites y oportunidades que el “tiempo”, categoría esencial en la Historia, ha dado a la libertad de los hombres.

A esta magna empresa aspira contribuir, siquiera humildemente, La razón histórica.

Have you ever tried to identify the historical facts which were simultaneously happening, in any part of the globe, during a certain period of time? If you try, you will see the enormous difficulty it conveys.

In order to provide a solution to this issue and ease the study of history, we started years ago the creation of a system to represent the historical events and the geopolitical maps of any region or country in the world.

To develop our application, generate temporary political maps and give it the historical content, we have been supported by a multidisciplinary team of graduates in Geography & History, mathematicians, engineers and experts in GIS and Information Systems in general, working for three years. And our aim is to continue improving the content of this system.

This first version of GeaCron contains a sequence of maps covering the political history since 3000 BC. The maps show the historical situation of the world at the beginning of each year, so the changes occurring in the current year will be shown on maps in 2013.

The system ables you to position in any geographical area, both with a background map or relief map, zoom, navigate in time, search and create links that contain the geographic and historical situation that is desired. It also includes the ability to embed in digital media sites or topic sites, geographical areas and their evolution over time.

GeaCron is a complementary tool for the study of history and of the information contained in the documentary sources, historiography, or encyclopedias. The history is subject to multiple interpretations and therefore we are open to the collaboration of all those lovers of world history who wish to provide their knowledge, to suggest some sort of modification or any other kind of contribution.

In the “News and Notes”on our website will be posted, among other innovations, such improvements and new features as they become available.

And now, a year later, we are pleased to announce, in this new version of GeaCron, an additional functionality that allows to represent entities, periods and events through timelines.

The system provides the desired historical analysis, simply by incorporating into the timeline those entities that are considered related, for the period under study. All this may be supplemented, if desired, with the corresponding cartographic representations.

Kingdoms, pontificates, political regimes, revolutions, wars, battles, natural disasters: all these concepts can be represented in GeaCron. And others will be added soon, such as cultural, artistic and philosophical trends, religious movements, etc.

With this new functionality, we have achieved one of the most important goals of our website and hope that their use provides significant assistance to those interested in the history of mankind.

I got into writing by accident. I was teaching Religious Education in senior high schools, and was looking for accessible material about the Bible, something that would interest my students. I could not find it.

There was hardly anything, for example, on the women of the Bible. Available books were either scholarly and out of the reach of the normal student, or cloyingly sentimental and sometimes historically inaccurate as well. I approached Harper Collins with a book proposal which they accepted.

They published ‘Women in the Bible’ in 1997. It contained the stories of twelve biblical women, told from a historical point of view – I had originally been a History teacher.

After ten years the book went out of print and the copyright reverted to me, so instead of letting it disappear I put it on the web – you can find it at www.womeninthebible.net

I got hooked on the Web, and have been writing for it ever since.

This site explores just about anything to do with the Bible: the people, good and bad – their stories the archaeology of the Bible: what it tells us about ancient Israel daily life for ordinary men and women in ancient Israel – what they ate, what their houses were like, what work they did the great artworks depicting events and people of the Bible a section on each of the books of the Bible, with some activities to help people who want to explore them warfare: who fought who, what weapons they used, how they attacked and defended
list of top ten – good and bad men and women, commandments, plagues, young people, etc.

My religious and personal background?

I was born into a Catholic family, and attended Catholic schools and then the University of Sydney, Australia. My first degree was in History and Modern Languages.

I became a schoolteacher and agreed to teach Religious Studies, which can be taken as a University entrance subject in Australia. I found I was out of my depth – attending church regularly does not prepare a person for teaching Religion to high school students.

So I went back to University and gained advanced qualifications in this area.

After my husband died, I moved out of teaching into full-time writing. I wrote and edited a variety of Religion textbooks, and developed the Religious Education curriculum now used extensively throughout Australia. But my chief interest was always Biblical Studies, and my websites reflect this.

I am interviewed on national radio or talk-back programs whenever there is a fuss about something to do with the Bible, as there was when ‘The Da Vinci Code’ was published.

When I was young, Bible stories always seemed to be about men - what they did, what they said, what they felt. Women were left out or presented as stereotypes: good women, bad women, or invisible.

I sensed something wrong. Why was the biblical world composed mainly of men? The answer is, it wasn't. The focus on men was given by people, not God. Here's an example. Everyone knows the story of David and Goliath, but hardly anyone has heard of Jael and Sisera. The two stories are remarkably similar, but the first is about a man who kills an enemy, the second is about a woman who does the same. The first story is world famous; the second is virtually forgotten.

As I read the Bible more carefully, I found stories about women I had never heard of. They are rarely discussed, even though the women characters are fascinating, feisty, beautiful, courageous – at least as interesting as the men!

In a way this made sense, because men were the target audience at the time the Bible stories were put down on paper, so the stories dealt with matters important to men.

Women's stories, on the other hand, were part of the oral tradition, stories passed down from one generation to the next - from grandmother to mother to daughter - much like family stories are now. Since they were not written down, many were lost.

This website tries to shift the focus back onto the women's stories, by looking at biblical women and asking Who were they? What were their stories? What did they think, do, and feel?  

It does not ignore the male characters. They were part of God’s story, as the women were. But it brings the women characters, especially the lesser known ones, into the spotlight, so that there is better coverage of the whole human experience of God.

Along the way I was surprised to find there was hardly anything on the subject of women in the Bible. The books that teachers used were either scholarly and out of the reach of a normal student, or cloyingly sentimental and sometimes quite inaccurate as well.

I approached Harper Collins with a book proposal and they published 'Women in the Bible' in 1997. After my husband died, I moved out of teaching into full-time writing. I wrote and edited a variety of Religion textbooks, and was one of the team of three people who developed the Religious Education Curriculum now used extensively throughout Australia. But my chief interest was always Biblical Studies.

When 'Women in the Bible' went out of print and the copyright reverted to me, I put the whole of the book on the Web as www.womeninthebible.net

My website was able to reach far more people than my book ever did, so I decided to devote myself to writing full-time for the Web.

I am interviewed on national radio or talk-back programs whenever there is a ruckus about something to do with the Bible and women, as there was when 'The Da Vinci Code' was published.

I have two grown-up children and four rambunctious little grandsons.
